Emmi Salonen, Creative Director & Founder
A native of Finland, Emmi studied graphic design in University of Brighton. After graduating in 2001 she moved to Italy to work at Fabrica, Benetton’s controversial but prestigious studio for young designers. Emmi went on to earn more professional stripes back in London and New York. In 2005 she set up Studio EMMI in London. As well as designing Emmi teaches at various UK universities, including Nottingham Trent and Ravensbourne and lectures regularly nationwide. She is the author of the book: ‘Common Interest: Documents’ published by Index Book and contributes to industry magazines on request, including IDEA, Creative Review, Grafik, Print and Novum, having covered topics ranging from typography to women in design.
Ramon Marin, Associate Creative Director
With over 10 years of experience, Ramon Marin’s impact on the design industry has been felt across the world including his native Barcelona, Venice and the Dominican Republic. Ramon has worked with clients like British Airways, Levi's, Benetton and Claridges, offering his services in the fields of branding, graphic communication and art direction. Ramon gives on-going art direction and design consultancy for Studio EMMI.
Henrietta Thompson, Writer & Curator
Henrietta is an editorial consultant for Studio EMMI. Editor at Large at Wallpaper* (previously Design Editor), Henrietta has considerable experience across every aspect of design publishing, and has held senior editing roles at Blueprint, Dazed & Confused, Winkreative and Phaidon. Passionate about democratic design and the potential for the creative industries to create real change, Henrietta writes regularly about architecture, design and technology for several publications, including the Guardian, High Life and Conde Nast Traveler. As a Curator her exhibitions include 100% Norway among others. Henrietta is author of five books, most recently Remake It, designed by Studio EMMI, published by Thames & Hudson.
Jere Salonen, Web Developer/Designer & Photographer
Jere Salonen creates world class user experiences, custom content management systems and high quality user interfaces. He has worked with creating newsletter systems for The Finnish Institute in London, programming for various clients as well as maintaining all and everything to do with even-slightly complicated technology at Studio EMMI. He has excellent knowledge of PHP, Ruby, HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript, including jQuery. He's also confident with working MVC frameworks like YII and Ruby on Rails. As a photographer, Jere's work has been commissioned and published internationally, including Quotation n Japan, Sandu Publishing in China, Helsingin Sanomat in Finland and The Prince's Foundation in the UK.
